We Build People Who Build Conservation

A North Carolina nonprofit turning curious newcomers into ethical, conservation-minded sportsmen and women through mentorship, community, and time in the field.

Our Mission

We Develop the People

Opportunity Outdoors mentors new hunters and anglers through immersive camps, community events, and long-term relationships, building conservation-minded sportsmen and women across North Carolina.

Other organizations conserve the land. We develop the people. We believe that ethical, conservation-minded hunters and anglers aren't born. They're mentored. And that mentorship doesn't happen in a one-day clinic. It happens around campfires, on pre-dawn truck rides, and through years of showing up for each other.

Our vision is a thriving outdoor community where every aspiring hunter or angler has a mentor, and every experienced sportsman has someone to show the ropes.

Our Story

Started Around a Campfire

Opportunity Outdoors started with a simple observation: there are thousands of folks in North Carolina who want to hunt or fish but don't have anyone to show them how. No family tradition. No hunting buddy. No idea where to start.

While most hunting organizations focus on policy, access, or habitat, we saw a gap nobody was filling: the human side of conservation. The mentor who answers your text at 5am on opening day. The friend who helps you sight in your bow. The community that makes you feel like you belong in the field.

What began as a handful of friends hosting informal hunting trips has grown into a structured mentorship organization with formal hunt camps, community events, a podcast, and a clear pathway from curious newcomer to mentor. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every dollar we raise goes back into the organization to help mentor the next wave of hunters and fishermen.

What We Stand For

Our Values

01

Mentorship Over Instruction

We don't hand you a pamphlet. We walk alongside you. Mentorship means honest feedback, patience, and years of showing up.

02

Conservation Is the Cost

Stewardship isn't optional. We develop people who care about the land, the wildlife, and the future of our shared natural resources.

03

Everyone Belongs

No gatekeeping. No intimidation. If you're curious about hunting or fishing, you have a place around our campfire.

04

Give Back What You Get

The goal isn't just to make hunters. It's to make mentors. We invest in people who will invest in the next generation.

05

Do It Right

Ethics, safety, legal compliance, and respect for the animal, the land, and each other. No shortcuts.

06

Community First

The campfire matters as much as the hunt. We build friendships, not just skillsets. The people are the point.

Leadership

The Board

Evan Trebilcock

Evan Trebilcock

Co-Founder & Board Chair

Evan has been chasing wild places since he was learning to walk in rural upstate New York, where his family took every opportunity to harvest game from the land. That upbringing left him wanting to share the wonders of the outdoors with anyone willing to try. From putting first-time deer hunters in the stand to teaching himself to archery hunt bull elk in the Rocky Mountains, Evan lives to push boundaries in the field. He co-founded Opportunity Outdoors to turn that energy into something bigger: a community built around mentorship, conservation, and the belief that everyone deserves a shot at the outdoor life.

John Trice

John Trice

Marketing & Board Vice Chair

A lifelong outdoorsman and angler, John didn't pick up a rifle until 2022. His second-ever hunt was at an OO deer camp, where he tagged his first deer. A North Carolina native who spent 15 years on the West Coast building a career in marketing and brand strategy, he returned home and found Opportunity Outdoors at exactly the right time. Now he channels that professional background into shaping OO's brand, building out the digital platform, and making sure the organization's story reaches the people it was made for. When he's not behind a screen, he's getting his own kids hooked on fishing and the outdoors.

Safiyyah Motaib

Safiyyah Motaib

Content & Board Secretary

Safiyyah's path to hunting was anything but traditional. She didn't fit the mold of a typical outdoor enthusiast, but after moving to North Carolina for college, she picked up foraging, which led to fishing, which led to hunting. As one of OO's very first mentees, she experienced the mentorship model from the ground up and ran with it. Safiyyah has since become one of the most dedicated and accomplished hunters and anglers in the group. She now keeps the board organized and the content flowing as OO's Secretary.

Zeke Goldstein

Zeke Goldstein

Compliance & Board Treasurer

Zeke was raised in the mountains of North Carolina with a deep appreciation for wild places through hiking and fishing. Although hunting skipped a generation in his family, his grandfather's old stories planted a seed that stuck. Once he was old enough, he rekindled that curiosity through waterfowl hunting with friends and never looked back. He found Opportunity Outdoors at a trailhead in 2021, and his go-get-it attitude has since made him a well-rounded waterfowl, deer, and turkey hunter. As Treasurer, Zeke keeps OO's finances clean and the organization moving forward on solid ground.

John "Monty" Montgomery

John "Monty" Montgomery

Event Planning

Monty grew up in Indiana with a rod and reel in his hand since he could walk. He crossed paths with Opportunity Outdoors in the spring of 2021 and never looked back. His pure joy for simply being outdoors can turn any slow day into a good one, and he's always the first to reach out a hand to someone new. As Event Planner, Monty is the operational engine behind OO's camps and events, handling everything from scouting locations to day-of logistics.

Evan Weiss

Evan Weiss

Fundraising

Evan grew up in Florida with very little exposure to the outdoors until a close friend introduced him to hunting. He was hooked from day one. He crossed paths with Opportunity Outdoors in the winter of 2021, and his persistence in the field has been unmatched ever since. In a short time, Evan has grown into a self-sufficient hunter with a reputation for turning wild game into incredible meals. His attention to detail in the kitchen carries over into his role as Fundraising Chair, where he's building the sponsorship and donor relationships that will fuel OO's next chapter.

Andy Tomaszewski

Andy Tomaszewski

Co-Founder & At-Large

Andy grew up in the Michigan wilds fishing for bass and muskie in the summer and hunting ruffed grouse in the fall. His passion for bringing friends along on his adventures started at a young age, and that spirit is baked into OO's DNA. He co-founded Opportunity Outdoors to get more people into the great outdoors in search of connection, purpose, and with a little luck, some organic groceries. Now serving in an At-Large capacity, Andy brings his professional sales experience to bear on sponsor prospecting, donor cultivation, and community outreach.
